Vice President of Lumber & Building Materials
Prior to joining Do it Best, Gary Nackers was a general manager at a home improvement retail chain in Wisconsin, where he spent 15 years expanding their business from one location to seven. After joining Do it Best in 1999, Gary gained extensive experience in sales and business development as a territory manager. He served as a regional sales manager in the northeastern United States, and returned to the company’s headquarters as the national sales manager for Sales and Business Development. Gary became the director of program development for lumber and building materials in 2011. In this role, he led a departmental reorganization in building materials that improved member services by better preparing the team for addressing the housing recovery.
Gary was promoted to vice president of lumber and building materials in September 2014. He is building on his previous initiatives by analyzing what members will need to succeed as the market continually improves. Gary uses both his retail and distribution experience to drive the global strategy for all lumber, building material, and home décor purchasing and sales. He and his team support thousands of member-owned locations that carry lumber and building materials and help them gain a competitive advantage in their markets.
Gary has been involved with several industry associations and conferences while at Do it Best. He is a past board member for the National Lumber and Building Materials Dealers Association (NLBMDA) and past chair of the Manufacturers and Services Council. In this role, he was instrumental in growing membership in the NLBMDA. Gary is a 2009 graduate of Leadership Fort Wayne, and he previously served as a board member for the Anthony Wayne Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
